2018 Recap - Here's a look back at the major happenings from the month of August, which included India's fine run at the 2018 Asian Games.

Swapna Barman created a flutter at the 2018 Asian Games when she became the first Indian to bag a medal in the heptathlon event.

Highs:

August 5: P. V. Sindhu won the silver medal at the 2018 Badminton World Championships.

August 5: Andrea Dovizioso wins the Czech Republic Grand Prix, his 100th win for Ducati.

August 13: Rafael Nadal beat Stefanos Tsisipas to win the Rogers Cup.

August 18: India beat England by 2013 runs in the third Test of its tour of England.

August 23: Ankita Raina won the bronze medal in women's singled and became only the second woman to do so since Sania Mirza in 2006.

August 26: Sebastian Vettel won the Belgian Grand Prix ahead of Lewis Hamilton to remain in the hunt for the F1 title.

August 27: Neeraj Chopra threw a national record distance of 88.06m to pocket the gold medal in the men's javelin throw.

Neeraj Chopra won India's first javelin throw gold medal at the Asian Games as he set a new Indian record with a throw of 88.06m – the fourth time he broke the national mark this year – on his third throw.

August 29: Swapna Barman overcame terrible tooth ache and braved the odds to become bag the gold in the heptathlon.

Swapna Barman became the first Indian to secure a gold medal in heptathlon at the Asian Games held earlier this year.

 

Lows:

August 15: Former  Indian cricket Ajit Wadekar captain passes away at the age of 77.

August 2: The Indian women's hockey team lost in the quarterfinal of the 2018 Jockey World Cup.

Iranian players take down raider Monu Goyat during India's semifinal match at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.

 

August 23: Indian men's kabaddi team lost to Iran in the semifinals of the Asian Games and was forced to settle for the bronze medal.
