Dutee Chand

Dutee Chand, hailing from Jajpur (Odisha), achieved a rare double of silver medals in women's 100m and 200m races in the Asian Games in Jakarta.

Dutee, who had qualified for the Asiad after giving fine performances, including bettering her National record (11.29) in 100m, in the National inter-state meet in Guwahati, clocked 11.32 to in 100m and timed 23.20 in 200m to come second behind Nigerian-born Bahrain athlete Edidiong Odiong in the Asian Games.

Dutee, who had missed out on the 2014 Asian Games after being banned over the hyperandrogenism issue, had achieved her personal best of 23.00 in the 200m semifinals.

Her silver in the 100m was the first medal by an Indian in the event at the Asian Games after Rachita Mistry's bronze in 1998 in Bangkok.

Her 200m medal also came after a barren spell in the event for India following Saraswati Saha's gold in 2002 in Busan.
