Saurabh Chaudhary had started shooting at the Veer Sahamal Rifle Club with coach Amit Sheoran in 2015.
At just 16-years-old, Saurabh had the distinction of winning the Asian Games gold in men’s air pistol in Palembang.
He also won the World Championship junior gold in Changwon, Korea, in September, with a junior world record score of 245.5. It was better than the men’s gold winning score of 241.5.
Later, he won the Youth Olympics gold in Buenos Aires in October, outclassing the field with a total of 244.2 in the final and 580 in qualification.
The Junior World Cup gold in Suhl, Germany, apart from the Asian Air Gun championship in Kuwait complete his achievements of 2018.
A shooter par excellence, Saurabh keeps things simple and does not bother about the reputation of his fellow shooters.
It came as a surprise that he was not fielded in the men’s team for a possible shot at the Olympic quota in the World Championship, after he had won the Asian Games gold.
