Para badminton player Manoj Sarkar and para swimmer Suyash Jadhav were both conferred the Sportstar Aces Parathlete of the Year award.

The Sportstar Aces Awards supported by Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy, in association with MRF, will be announced at a ceremony at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai on Thursday, recognising and rewarding not just our athletes, but also the silent forces who work tirelessly — often behind the scenes — to produce champions.

The awards are an effort to highlight the untold stories of struggle, fierce dedication and selfless work behind an athlete’s ascension, irrespective of the popularity of the sport. They will also look to create a medium of knowledge and vision exchange as all stakeholders of Indian sports are brought under one roof.

Among the guests at the event will be Nasser Al Khater, the assistant secretary general of Qatar’s supreme committee for delivery and legacy for the 2022 football World Cup.

The Aces are being awarded in three categories – Popular Awards, Jury Awards and Nominated Awards.

Voting was held to pick the winners in the 10 categories of the Popular Awards – Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year for Cricket, Racquet Sports, Track and Field, Other Team Sport and Other Individual Sports.

The winners will be chosen by a panel headed by cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar and including The Hindu Publishing Group chairman N. Ram, former India hockey captain M. M. Somaya, and Olympians Anjali Bhagwat and Anju Bobby George.

The Nominated Awards comprise those for Best University and Best Corporate House for the Promotion of Sports.

The Sportstar Aces Awards will be streamed live on  sportstar.thehindu.com .
