M. C. Mary Kom and Vinesh Phogat were jointly awarded the Sportswoman of the Year (Other Individual Sport) at the Sportstar Aces awards supported by Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy, in association with MRF in Mumbai on Thursday.
Mary Kom, the winner of a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics where women's boxing was introduced for first time, etched her name in history by winning a World Championships gold for a record sixth time.

Phogat, on the other hand, become the first Indian to receive a nomination at the prestigious Laureus Sports Awards that will be held on Monday.
The Haryana wrestler, who was stretchered off after dislocating her knee in the quarterfinals of 50kg freestyle event at the 2016 Olympic Games, has been nominated alongside US Tour Championship winner Tiger Woods, who won his first tournament in five years.
Former India cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar, The Hindu Publishing Group chairman N. Ram, former India hockey captain M.M. Somaya, Olympian shooter Anjali Bhagwat and Olympian long-jumper Anju Bobby George selected the deserving winners in categories involving young athletes, teams, coaches and parathletes.
The Aces Awards are an effort to highlight the untold stories of struggle, fierce dedication and selfless work behind an athlete’s ascension, irrespective of the popularity of the sport.
The awards look to create a medium of knowledge and vision exchange as it brings all stakeholders of Indian sports under one roof.
