Sunil Chhetri had his most prolific goal-scoring year for both Bengaluru FC and Indian national team in 2018. The striker notched 23 goals in 35 matches in all competitions for Bengaluru adding to the eight strikes in five appearances for the Blue Tigers.

Bengaluru fell short narrowly in the Indian Super League final but Chhetri helped the Blues get over the disappointment quickly by leading them to a Super Cup success. He was the top-scorer in the competition with six goals, which included a complete hat-trick in the quarterfinal against NEROCA and a double in the decider against East Bengal.

Chhetri carried over his club form into the international arena at the Intercontinental Cup in June at the Mumbai Football Arena. The national team skipper scored eight in four matches, including a brace in the final which helped India clinch the title.
