Their love blossomed over the bow and arrow and now, top India archers Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das are set to tie the knot in 2019. Their engagement is set to take place at Deepika’s home on the outskirts of Ranchi on December 10.
The archers first met during the national camp at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Kolkata a few years ago. While their close friends knew about it, the two made it a point to keep their love for each other a secret.
“With the Olympic qualification round starting, there will be too many competitions now, so we will marry next year,” Atanu told Sportstar on Wednesday.
It has been learnt that the couple decided to inform their parents during Dussehra this year.
One of the top archers of the world, Deepika defeated Rio Olympics silver medallist Lisa Unruh of Germany to win the bronze medal at the World Cup finals in Turkey in October. Despite her success at the World Cups, Deepika has not been able to maintain her form in Asian Games or Olympics.
Atanu too has been one of the prominent names in the circuit, but has flattered to deceive in the showpiece events.
With the Olympics a year-and-a-half away, the two will now focus on the Tokyo Games, but before that, they are excited to start a new innings.
