National selection trials: Deepika, Tarundeep lead on day one

Deepika Kumari led the pack of 24 recurve women archers after the first day's action at the National selection trials at the KIIT University campus here on Wednesday.

Deepika scored 1306 points to grab a slender four-point lead over L. Bombayala Devi after four 70m rounds.

Preeti, who also scored 1302, was the other woman archer to go past 1300 mark.

Newly-crowned National champion Ankita Bhakat and Madhu Vedwan were at at shared fifth place on 1291, one point behind Komalika Bari.

Tarundeep Rai emerged as the top archer among men. He gathered a total of 1359 to stay one point ahead of National champion and his Services mate Pravin Jadhav.

Atanu Das was third on 1353, while Sukhmani Babrekar and Atul Verma were joint fourth on 1331.

The archers will go through four more 70m rounds before the top 12 getting engaged in a round robin one-on-one battle.
