Archery World Cup: India in men's compound team final

The trio of Abhishek Verma, Chinna Raj Srither and Amanjeet Singh gave the team a combined score of 232 to prevail over U.S.A by two points. India will face tenth seeded Colombia in the final on Saturday.

The Indian Compound men team stunned top seed U.S.A to enter the final of Archery World Cup Stage I in Shanghai on Thursday.

The trio of Abhishek Verma, Chinna Raj Srither and Amanjeet Singh gave the team a combined score of 232 to prevail over U.S.A by two points. India will face tenth seeded Colombia in the final on Saturday. India had defeated Iran with a similar margin in the quarterfinal.

The Indian Compound mixed team of Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam lost 152-158 to Korea in the semifinal and will play for bronze against fourth seeded U.S.A. on Saturday.

Top Indian archers Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari were awarded byes in the second round of their respective recurve events. Das will face off against Erdal Meric Dal of Turkey in the third round while Deepika Kumari will be up against fellow Indian Preeti, who defeated Alexandra Longova 7-3 in the second round.

Other Results

Recurve men:

Viswash defeated Li Jialun of China 6-5, to advance to the third round. He next faces Furukawa Takaharu of Japan.

Indrachand Swami went down 2-6 to Steve Wijler of Netherlands.

Dhaniram Basumatary was blanked 0-6 by Ding Liye of China.

Recurve Women:

Ankita Bhakat lost to French archer Audrey Adiceom 4-6 in the second round.

Monika Saren put up a tough fight but lost 5-6 to Farida Tukebayeva of Kazakhstan.

Compound Men:

Chinna Raju Srither defeated Jose Carlos Ospina 143-138 to face the American Bridger Deaton in the third round.

Gurwinder Singh got the better of his compatriot Amanjeet Singh and will compete against eighth seed Demir Elmaagacli from Turkey.

Abhishek Verma got a bye to face Dejan Sitar of Slovenia in the third round.

Compound Women:

Parveena lost to Linda Ochoa-Anderson 138-143 in the second round.

Divya Dhayal got the better of Sandra Herve and won 141-137. She next faces Parisa Baratchi of Iran.

Recurve Men team:

India bowed out of the competition after losing 0-6 to third seeded Japan in the quarterfinal.

Recurve Mixed team:

The Indian team lost 3-5 to the Russians in the quarterfinal.

Compound Women team:

The women’s compound team did not enjoy success like the men’s team and lost 223-229 to Denmark in the quarterfinal.
