World Cup Archery: Deepika Kumari, Atanu Das disappoint again

Deepika Kumari exited in the fourth round while Atanu Das ended his campaign in the third round. Dhaniram Basumatary was the most successful Indian in the recurve event, progressing till the quarterfinal at the Archery World Cup.

India had yet another disappointing day at the Stage II of the Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey.

Friday saw individual events of compound and recurve events taking place from the second round.

In women's compound event, India's Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Divya Dhayal and Snehal Mandhare's journey ended in the second round. Jyothi lost to Janine Meissner of Germany in the second round 139-143.

Divya, who is seeded ninth in the world, lost to World No. 24, Erika Anear, of Denmark. She lost 140-142.

Snehal lost to World No. 2 Sarah Sonnichsen of Denmark 140-144. Sarah will face her fellow countrywoman, Tanjya Jensen for the gold medal.

In the recurve event, World No. 1, Deepika Kumari, lost to Chinese-Taipei's Lin Shih-Chia 5-6 in the fourth round. Lin Shih-Chia had earlier defeated Ankita Bhakat in the second round 7-3. Lin Shih-Chia will face Russia's Ksenia Perova for the gold medal.

It was also curtains for Monika Saren who lost to Chinese Taipei's Peng Chia-Mao 1-7 in the third round.

Preeti had earlier lost in the second round to Ana Umer of Slovenia 6-0.

In men's recurve event, World No. 7 Dhaniram Basumatary, made it to the quarterfinal before losing to World No. 2, Jean-Charles Valladont of France.

Atanu Das's journey ended in the third round as he lost to Muhammad Akmal Nor Hasrin 2-6.

Indrachand Swami lost to Turkey's Onur Tezel 4-6 and Viswash lost to France's Thomas Chirault 2-6 in the second round.

Jean-Charles will face USA's Brady Ellison in the final.

India still has chances of winning three bronze medals on Saturday. While the women compound team will take on Italy, the men will fight against France for their respective bronze medals. In compound mixed team event, India is up against Italy.
