Asian Games, Day 13: Sailors win three medals, Indian women clinch hockey silver

The Indian women went down 2-1 to Japan in the Hockey final and had to settle for silver. Vikas Krishnan was forced to settle for a bronze after he was declared medically unfit while the sailors brought home three silver medals.

9pm: That brings us to the end of action on day 13. Six medals were won today, though the gold remained elusive. Join us tomorrow for the final day's action for India in the Asian Games.

8.40pm: (DIVING): It's all over for Ramananda Sharma in the men's 3m springboard finals. He finishes rock bottom.

8.12pm: (DIVING): A mediocre performance by Ramananda Sharma sees him with 281.25 points after five dives. The performance isn't enough for a top-10 place too, unfortunately.

7.50pm: (HOCKEY): India has lost to Japan 2-1 in the women's final. More information of that game is on our hockey blog.

7.45pm: (DIVING): All twelve divers have taken two dives and Ramananda Sharma is currently in eleventh position. India's chances of getting a medal looking bleak right now.

7.25pm: (DIVING): Ramananda Sharma is in action in the 3m springboard final.

6.15pm: (HOCKEY): India takes on Japan in the women's hockey final and you can catch all the live updates of that game on our hockey blog.

4.57pm: (BOXING): Amit Panghal wins! He's through to the final, where he will fight Uzbekistan's Hasanboy Dusmatov.

4.45pm: (BOXING): Light weight fly 49kg — Amit Panghal’s semifinal against Philippines' Carlo droPaalam is underway.

4.20pm: (SQUASH):Bronze medal for India. India has lost to Hong Kong in the semifinal and settles for a bronze medal.

3.35pm: (SQUASH): India vs Hong Kong men's team semifinal is happening right now and India has lost the first match.

3.06pm: (SAILING):Harshita Tomar wins bronze in the Open Laser 4.7 category.

3pm: (CANOE): In the men's 200m doubles, Jamesboy Singh and Prakant Sharma top the semifinal and are through to the final.

2:40pm: (SAILING): MEDALS! Varsha Gautam and Shweta Shervegar win silver in women’s 49er FX sailing event, while Varun Ashok Thakkar and Ganapathy Kelapanda Chengappa claim bronze in 49er men’s sailing event.

2:15pm: (SQUASH): The Indian men's team faces Hong Kong in the team semifinal. Can it emulate the women's team and seal a spot in the summit clash?

1:45pm: (ROLLER SKATING): Amitesh Mishra finishes eighth in the men's road 20km race with a timing of 34:00:957s. The other India represent, Harshveer Singh Sekhon did not finish.

1:30pm: (DIVING): Ramananda Sharma finishes ninth with a score of 346.15 to qualify for the final of the men's 3m springboard event.

1:05pm: (TABLE TENNIS): This has been the Indian table tennis team's most successful campaign in the Asian Games so far.

The men's team of Sharath Kamal, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Manav Thakkar, Harmeet Desai and Amalraj Anthony won the bronze medal in the men's team event , while the doubles duo of Sharath and Manika bagged a bronze in mixed doubles .

12:55pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Sathiyan Gnanasekaran's singles campaign comes to an end. He loses to 1-4 to Japan's Kenta Matsudaira and that also marks the end of India's table tennis campaign at the Asian Games.

12:44pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Matsudaira wins the fourth game 11-6 and now leads 3-1. Sathiyan has an uphill task ahead of him.

12:39pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Both the paddlers are at it in the fourth game! 4-4 now. 

12:35pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Sathiyan comes close to coming from behind and winning the game but Matsudaira holds fort. The Japanese wins the third game 11-9.

12:32pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Matsudaira pulls one back! He takes the second game 11-4. He looks to have really come into the game as he leads the third game 8-4 and Sathiyan is in trouble.

12:22pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Sathiyan Gnanasekaran is in action against Japan's Kenta Matsudaira. He wins the first game 11-9. That was close! 

12:00pm: (TABLE TENNIS): Sathiyan Gnanasekaran will be seen in action soon. He faces Japan's Kenta Matsudaira in the round-of-16.


11:30am: (SQUASH): THIS IS BIG!
The Indian women's team is through to the final! The Indians defeat top seed Malaysia 2-0 to advance to the summit clash.

11:07am: (TABLE TENNIS): World number five Manyu Wang proves too strong for Manika Batra and eases to a 11-2, 11-8, 11-8, 6-11, 11-4 victory.

11:00am: (TABLE TENNIS):
Manika shows signs of improvement, she stages a strong comeback to win the fourth game 11-6. But is it too little too late?

11:00am: (SQUASH): The Indian women's team cruises to a 1-0 lead against Malaysia in the semifinal.

10:55am: (TABLE TENNIS): Sharath Kamal's singles campaign comes to an end. He goes down fighting to Chinese Taipei's Chihyuan Chuang. The final scoreline reads 4-2 in Chuang's favour. (11-7, 9-11, 12-10, 14-16, 11-9, sixth game score not given).

10:51am: (TABLE TENNIS): The Chinese paddler is proving too good for Manika. She wins the third game 11-8 and is one game away from sealing the tie.

10:50am: (SOFT TENNIS): The Indian team loses 0-3 to Cambodia in a men's preliminary group C encounter.

10:45am: (TABLE TENNIS): Manyu wins five points in a row to snatch the second game 11-8 against Manika. She leads 2-0. The Indian put up better show in the second game and even enjoyed a two point lead at 8-6 but failed to capitalise.

10:43am: (TABLE TENNIS): Sharath is in trouble here. Chuang comes back to claim the fifth game 11-9 to take a 3-2 lead. The Indian has to win the next game to remain in the tie.

10:37am: (TABLE TENNIS): Manyu has it easy, she wins the first game 11-2 against Manika with a sharp down the line push.

10:30am: (TABLE TENNIS): How good was that? Sharath brings his best to the table to take the fourth game 16-14 and bring the tie back on level terms at 2-2.

10:18am: (TABLE TENNIS): That was a close game! Sharath saves two game points but is unable to hold on as Chuang takes the game 12-10. He now leads 2-1.

10:10am: (TABLE TENNIS): Comeback!
Sharath pegs one back to take the second game 11-9.

9:55am: (TABLE TENNIS): Sharath Kamal loses the first game 7-11 to Chuang.

9:30am: (SQUASH): Also coming up is the Indian women's team's semifinal clash against top seed Malaysia.

We're only a few minutes away from Sharath Kamal's round-of-16 clash against Chinese Taipei's Chihyuan Chuang. Can the top-ranked Indian paddler seal his spot in the quarters?

9:10am: (CYCLING): India's cycling campaign for the day comes to an end. Ranjit Singh and Esow Alben finish sixth in their respective heat in the repechage round and will play no further role in the competition.

9:00am: (VOLLEYBALL): That's the win. The Taipei women soar to a comfortable 25-21, 25-16, 25-15 win to defeat India 3-0 in the women's 9th-10th position classification match.

8:45am: (CANOE): Prakrant Sharma and Jamesboy Singh Oinam finish fifth in the Canoe Double (C2) 200m men's heats and have made it to the semifinal.

8:35am: (JUDO): Both of India's Judo represents have lost today. After Avtar Singh's loss to UAE's Ivan Remarenco, Rajwinder Kaur loses to Japan's Akira Sone in the women's +78kg quarterfinals.

8:30am: (VOLLEYBALL): The Taipei women clinch the second set 25-16. India trails 0-2.

8:21am: (KAYAK): Naocha Singh finishes seventh in the Kayak Single (K1) 200m men's heats and qualifies for the semifinals.

8:16am: (VOLLEYBALL): India women's volleyball team is in action against Chinese Taipei in the 9th/10th place match.  India lost the first set 25-21 and is trailing the second, 22-14.

8:15am: (JUDO): Avtar Singh loses to UAE's Ivan Remarenco in the Men's 100kg round-of-16.

8:15am: (KAYAK): Ragina Kiro finishes sixth in the Kayak Single (K1) 200m women heats and heads into the semifinals.

8:10am: ( CANOE ): In the Canoe Single (C1) 200m Women Heats, Meera Das did not finish, meaning she is out of the competition.

7:55am: ( CYCLING ): Ranjit Singh finishes seventh in his Men's Keirin heat and moves into the repechages. Fellow Indian Esow Alben finishes fourth in his heat and will join Ranjit in the repechage round.

Day 12 highlights:

On Day 12, Athletics, yet again, became India's saviour as it got hold of two gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Jinson Johnson's 800m disappointment finally saw the shine of gold as he won the final of the men's 1500m. ( Read more )

In the women's 4 x 400m,  India  clinched gold with the help of  Hima Das,  Saritaben Gayakwad, Poovamma Raju and Vismaya. The same event for men saw India clinch silver. Both in discus throw and women's 1500m, India managed to grab bronze, as well.
