Olympian Dattu Bhokanal, who formed a quartet with Sawarn Singh, Om Prakash and Sukhmeet Singh to win the quadruple sculls gold, said he was disappointed not to land an individual medal.

“I had high fever after I reached Indonesia, but I competed. Since we could not get some medals we had targeted, we gave a determined performance in the team event,” he said.

Coach Ismail Baig said it was disheartening to see his wards not winning medals despite making it to the finals of seven events. “I have never seen our rowers missing medals by such narrow margins. For the quadruple sculls, we changed our plan and went slow in the first 500m and then increased speed to take the lead later.”

Dushyant Chauhan (lightweight single sculls) and Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Singh (lightweight double sculls) bagged bronze medals in the Asiad.
