Twitter lauds Indian athletes at the Asian Games

As Hima Das and Muhammed Anas both made India proud, Twitter started overflowing with congratulatory messages.

Indian athletes picked up from where they left, on Saturday to continue their strong show at the Asian Games on Sunday. As had been anticipated, Hima Das and Muhammed Anas won a silver each in women’s and men’s 400m, respectively.

For Hima, it was her second national record in a matter of two days as she clocked 50.79 seconds, 0.70 seconds behind Bahrain’s Salwa Naser who won the gold setting a new Games record.

Hima had qualified for the final with a national record time 51.00 seconds yesterday, bettering the 14-year-old mark set by Manjeet Kaur (51.05).

In the men’s 400m final event, Anas clocked 45.69 seconds to clinch the silver. The gold was won by Hassan Abdalelah of Qatar who was at the finish in 44.89 seconds.

Tweets started pouring in from everywhere to congratulate the heroes after they achieved this feat.

The Athletics Federation of India tweeted congratulating Hima for the record breaking time in which she completed the 400m finals.

Former national hockey team skipper, Viren Rasquinha, joined in to congratulate the 18-year-old Hima who broke her own record n Sunday.

Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, in his tweet, said that Hima has made both Assam and India proud with her achievement.

Meanwhile, Harsha Bhogle too, left the cricket ground behind to congratulate both Hima and Anas.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, too congratulated Anas for his remarkable performance at the Games.

Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wished Hima all the best for all her future endeavours.
