David Rudisha named ambassador of Mumbai Marathon

Olympic and world 800m champion, David Rudisha from Kenya, is named the international event ambassador for the 14th Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2017. The marathon will be held on January 15.

Olympic and world 800m champion, David Rudisha from Kenya, is named the international event ambassador for the 14th Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2017. The marathon will be held on January 15.

With USD 384,000 in prize money, the Mumbai Marathon will witness more than 42,000 runners, professionals and amateurs.

Rudisha, the 28-year-old middle-distance ace, retained his Olympic 800m title with an power-packed run at Rio Olympics, clocking 1:42.16. He was timed at 1:40.91 four years ago in London 2012, a world record performance.

'Happy'

Rudisha will visit India for the second time, following a 2012 trip for the Delhi Half Marathon.

“I am very happy to be associated with an event that has taken the world by storm and helped ignite the running movement in India. l hope my presence will serve as an inspiration to all those taking part,” said the Kenyan.

Being the 800m world record holder, we are extremely delighted to have someone of that stature amidst us. His infectious enthusiasm will surely spread across to all the runners and encourage them as they push harder.”
