So Day 9 of the 2019 IAAF World Championships is done and dusted! Thanks for tuning in!
- Jamaica wins the women's 4x100m relay title, while USA bags the men's 4x100m gold.
- The penultimate day of the 2019 IAAF World Championships has been phenomenal so far. The Khalifa stadium in Doha, Qatar, has been buzzing throughout the day.
- Helen Obiri of Kenya bags the gold in women's 5000 metres event! Her countrywoman Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi takes the silver, while Konstanze Klosterhalfen of Germany takes bronze and thereby becomes her country's first-ever 5000m medal winner at the Worlds.
- USA's Joe Kovacs wins men's shot put gold! He beats countryman Ryan Crouser and Tom Walsh of New Zealand by just one centimetre.
- Sifan Hassan of Netherlands win the women's 1500m title! She breaks the Championships record in the process.
- Tonight, India's last participant at the 2019 IAAF World Championships 'Thonakal Gopi' will take part in the men's Marathon final in Doha.
- So it was a disappointing day for India. Javelin thrower Shivpal Singh and both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams have all failed to make the final.
- INDIA FINISHES SEVENTH WITH A TIMING OF 3:03:09. THE TEAM CAN'T MAKE THE FINAL.
- Noah Nirmal Tom will run India's final leg.
- No change in position as Jeevan runs the third leg.
- India in seventh as Muhammed Anas receives the baton.
- India in lane 7 and Jacob will run the first leg! Heat 2 begins.
- USA, Colombia and Italy have qualified for the men's 4x400m relay final. Botswana and Great Britain have to wait a bit longer to know their fate. India will run in Heat 2 soon!
- BREAKING: Ryan Crouser of USA had broken the Shot PutWorld Championships record a while back and New Zealand's defending champion Tom Walsh bettered that just minutes later. Walsh registered the fourth best throw of all time.
- Heat 1 of the men's 4x400m relay event is about to begin! India is in Heat 2.
- Teams in the women's4x400m relay final:
Heat 1 - Jamaica, Poland, Canada and Netherlands.
Heat 2 - USA, Great Britain, Ukraine and Belgium.
- Next up, the Indian men's 4x400m relay team will feature in the heats!
- In spite of complete the race with a season-best timing, the Indian team fails to make the women's 4x400m relay final.
- INDIA FINISHES SIXTH IN HEAT 1 WITH A TIMING OF 3:29:42. The team can't make the final now!
- V Subha will complete the race for India. And India finishes behind Jamaica. Poland, Canada, Netherlands and Australia, while France and Nigeria are the last two teams in Heat 1.
- Vismaya will run the third leg. She gains a place. India back to sixth here.
- Poovamma Raju receives the baton from Jisna. India moves to seventh now.
- Jisna Matthew is India's runner for the first leg. India is currently in sixth place.
- The Indian women's 4x400m relay team in action right now!

Shivpal bows out of the javelin event, as does Olympic and Euro champion, Thomas Rohler. For the Indians following this blog, the next event of interest is the 4x400 Metres Relay Heats for Women at 10.25pm. We're taking a short break until then. - Heartbreak in this group draw comes for Thomas Rohler. Far from his best, he bows out of the contest with inadequate distance.
- Sweden's
Kim Amb registers a massive effort of 84.45 to earn a spot in the javelin finals. He is an accountant back home. It should hardly surprise us that this man knows his way around the numbers.

Did you know: Arshad Nadeem is the only Pakistani athlete competing at Doha.
- Pakistan's
Arshad Nadeem has caught the attention of javelin enthusiasts with a National Record-breaking 81.52 in the first attempt. His second attempt fails to recreate the same effect, with Nadeem registering just 75.48. The top 12 is wide open and Shivpal Singh's chances to slip through look all but over.
- Estonia's
Magnus Kirt's 88.36 effort earns whistles from the spectators. The Germans have been underwhelming in this group draw, especial Thomas Rohler, the Olympic champion. Ordinary throws from the man.
- The Group B qualifiers aren't going as explosively as Group A's, but we have the fireworks coming in slowly.
- 15 minutes to go for the Group B qualifiers for Javelin. I am going to grab a quick bite before that. Do stay with us for the biggest stories from Doha.

Women's 100m hurdles heats - Heartening running here from the ladies. Biggest story coming in from here is that Olympic Champion Brianna McNeal has been disqualified from the 100m hurdles event after an unfortunate false start.
- I was snooping around Twitter a few minutes ago and found an interesting fan account of what it's like to attend the Worlds and watch it LIVE in these stadia. Give it a look.
- Medal ceremonies truly are a good distraction from the anxieties of watching athletes qualify. Meanwhile, the women's 100m hurdles heats is also soon to get underway
- That concludes Group A. As things stand, it doesn't look too bright for Shivpal as he finds himself in 10th place in this group, with four automatic qualifications ( Vetter, Webber, Peters and Vadlejch). Group B throws coming up in a few minutes. He needs to himself in the top 12 across these two groups. Tough ask, but let's wait and watch.
- Shivpal's third try doesn't stand. He finishes in 10th place with a best distance of 78.97m. Time to wait and see if he qualifies for the final. 86.23 is his personal best. Far from it tonight.
- Heartbreak for Lithuania's Edis Matusevicius as he finishes with a best of 79.60m. Placed ninth now in the standings, but we all know he's not happy with that. From from his season best. Yego too finds himself finishing with his poorest distance of the night, 80.62. It's a waiting game for these gentlemen.
- The 12 best throwers still have a chance. There's the window for Shivpal, who now finds himself in 10th place. Can he manage to sustain? Let's find out.
- Slightly better from Shivpal Singh now. 78.97m. Still not enough for Tokyo. He is ninth now overall.
- Grenada's Anderson Peters joins the final club with a phenomenal 85.34m throw.
- The qualifying mark here in for Javelin is 84m. We know Vetter and his compatriot Julian Webber have made it through, the latter registering 84.29m. Can Yego secure his place too? Shivpal needs a lot more effort to get to this mark. He's a good 10m short. Czech thrower Jakub Vadlejch joins the Germans in the final with a throw 84.31m.
- Shivpal has had his first throw and we have ourselves a distance of 75.91m. He needs to breach the 85m mark to qualify for Tokyo. Two attempts to go.
- Just to put things in perspective, Kenya's
Julius Yego has registered a distance of
83.86 to take second place in the standings so far. Look at that difference between first and second place.
- Poland's
Marcin Krukowski has registered a
82.44 , throw. This is the longest so far. However,
Johannes Vetter , the towering German has just come in and erased Krukowski's throw. Massive throw of
89.35 there. WOW! Lost balance after that throw but it's all worth it. Lovely way to make it to the top, Jo. He isn't defending champion for nothing.
- Javelin throwers are out practicing while the women's 100m hurdles heats is also soon to be underway. After the stadium action ends, we hit the road with the men's marathon also due to happen. Grab your snacks and a comfortable chair. It's going to be a long, fun night.
- Six thrilling finals in store for folks at the Khalifa stadium and all around the world too. Our eyes are currently on the javelin throw final which will see Shivpal Singh in action. Missing Neeraj Chopra here, who as we know is recovering from an elbow surgery and recovering splendidly. We caught up with the man a few weeks ago to see how his recovery and training is going.

It's time for a quick round-up of action from Day 08 in Doha:
Avinash Sable may have finished 13th in the 3000m steeplechase but he set a new national record 8:21:37.
- Here's how the 3000m steeplechase final played out:
- So the Indian simply re-wrote the national record he set in the heats on Tuesday to finish 13th. He has shaved off nearly four seconds from his previous best of 8:25:23!
KT Irfan and Devender Singh did a commendable job in the 20km race walk, finishing 26th and 35th respectively. It isn't all too bad for Irfan considering that he's already made the cut for Tokyo 2020. To know how, click here .
