Indian team leaves for Asian Games test event

Asian silver medallist quartermiler Jisna Mathew was one of the prominent names missing from the team announced earlier for the four-day meet.

A 30-member Indian athletics team will leave for Jakarta late on Thursday night for the Asian Games test event which begins in the Indonesian capital on February 11.

Asian silver medallist quartermiler Jisna Mathew was one of the prominent names missing from the team announced earlier for the four-day meet.

“She has a long season ahead, including the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Junior Asians and the under-20 Worlds and running in Jakarta during the off-season, will not do her any good. She is doing beach running now.,” said Usha on Thursday evening.

Javelin thrower Davinder Singh Kang, Asian champion distance runners G. Lakshmanan, Ajay Kumar Saroj, P.U. Chitra, long jumpers Nayana James, V. Neena, M. Sreeshankar and triple jumpers K. Kamalraj and N.V. Sheena are some of the prominent names in the team.
