National Race Walking C’ship to offer Rs. 4,00,000 as prize money

The National Race Walking Championship to be staged in the capital on February 18 and 19 will offer Rs.4,00,000 as total prize for the 50-kilometre, 20-km and 10-km races, thanks to the sponsorship by Max Bupa.

The National Race Walking Championship to be staged in the capital on February 18 and 19 will offer Rs.4,00,000 as total prize for the 50-kilometre, 20-km and 10-km races, thanks to the sponsorship by Max Bupa .

Happy to be associated with the Athletics Federation of India to promote walking, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Max Bupa , Ashish Mehrotra said, “We have been consistently promoting the cause of walking in India for the past five years. With this association we hope to make more people walk every day.”

The president of the Athletics Federation, Adille Sumariwalla was happy to find corporate support for walking and said that the partnership came at the right time as the team was preparing for the Asian Championship to be held in Japan in March.

The secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and also the Director General of the Sports Authority of India, Injeti Srinivas, acknowledged the world-class performances of the Indian race walkers, including at the Olympics in Rio, and hoped that the sport of walking would gain more popularity with such support.

The national race walking championship will feature events for Under-20 boys and girls apart from men and women.
