The Asian Athletic Championship is set to begin on July 6.

Athletics Federation of India (AFI) said here on Friday that it was waiting for the nod of Home and External Affair ministries for participation of Pakistani athletes, who have already registered for the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship to be held here between July 6 and 9.

“Pakistani athletes have already sent in their entries for the championship and we are waiting for clearances from Home and External Affair ministries. As soon as we get them, we will know whether they are coming or not,” said Adil J. Sumariwalla, AFI President, after meeting of the governing body of Asian Athletics Championship here.

“Names of athletes have been forwarded to the two ministries and final decision is theirs,” added Sumariwalla.

As of now, 1104 entries from 45 countries have been registered. Of them, 815 are athletes (505 men and 310 women) and 281 are officials.

The opening ceremony would be held on July 5. Various track, run and throw events would be played from July 6 to 9. The closing ceremony is slated for July 9.
