The Sports Authority of India’s revised list of athletes for the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) includes 192 athletes. The list was uploaded by the SAI on its website on Wednesday.

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza, five wrestlers and two boxers were excluded from the list. Sania’s exclusion was expected as she is expecting her first child with cricketer husband Shoaib Malik. Praveen Rana, Satyawart Kadian, Sumit, Lalita and Sarita were the five wrestlers dropped from the list while boxers L Devendro Singh and S Sarjubala Devi also got the axe.

Two track and field athletes — A Dharun and Mohan Kumar — were added in the list of 192 sportspersons who will get funding from the government.

Athletics gets the major share with 31 followed by shooting (31), para sports (26), archery (15), badminton (10), wushu (9). The list includes the 41 names who have been identified for the next Olympics. Tennis and wrestling have seven members each while table tennis has six.

According to SAI Director General Neelam Kapur, the focus is on Asian Games. “Those not figuring in the list need not be disheartened. The list would be reviewed periodically. The next assessment will happen after the Asian Games (from August 18 to September 2),” she said.

“It is a dynamic list. We want to make it aspirational. There should be prestige attached to being included in the TOPS. It reflects the efforts of the athletes to aim high and we will be reviewing the performances on a regular basis,” she added.
