Sanjita, Ramana win gold at National Weightlifting C’ships

Sanjita Chanu and Korada Ramana bagged gold medals in the women’s 48kg and men’s 56kg categories respectively on the first day of the Senior National Weightlifting Championships at the SAI centre, here today.

In Women’s 48kg, Sanjita lifted 78kg in snatch and 95kg in clean and jerk for a total of 173kg to emerge on top while Mirabai Chanu and Chandrika Tarafdar finished with silver and bronze, respectively.

Mirabai managed a total of 173 (75+98) and Chandrika picked up 156 (69+87).

In Men’s 56kg, Korada Ramana lifted 109kg in snatch and 142kg in clean and jerk for a total of 251kg to win yellow metal. Jamjang Deru bagged the silver with an effort of 246 (105+141) and Guru Raja settled for bronze with a lift of 242 (106+136).
