India’s Sharad Kumar and Varun Singh Bhati bettered India’s show at the World Para Athletics Championships on Saturday, winning silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the men’s high jump T42 event, Sharad registered a personal best of 1.84 m, followed by Bhati (1.77 m).
While the two helped India put up a jubilant show at the Games, America’s Sam Grewe struck a championship record, winning the category with a mark of 1.86m.

Both Sharad and Bhati are considered the top high jumpers, and in the Paralaympics in Rio de Janeiro last year, Bhati had finished third, while his compatriot Mariyappan Thangavelu won the gold medal.
On Saturday, Rio 2016 silver medallist Deon Kenzie of Australia came up with a time of 4:06.68 in the men’s 1500m T38.
