After completing a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles with a win at Roland Garros with Martina Hingis this year, the veteran tennis player has had a largely disappointing year. His doubles ranking dropped to No.72 on August 22, his lowest since No. 83 in 2001. He went back to playing ATP Challenger tournaments after 20 years and collected two titles along the way to finish the year as No. 59.

Leander, a winner of 18 Grand Slam titles, will launch his 2017 campaign at the Chennai Open, partnering Brazilian Andre Sa. The Brazilian will be Paes’ 111th doubles partner. With six titles in Chennai in 16 appearances so far, the evergreen Paes is in no mood to stop.
