Bernard Tomic needed just over an hour to seal his second-round spot at the Brisbane International as he raced past Nicolas Mahut in straight sets on Tuesday.
Mahut broke first in the opening set to lead 4-3, but world number 18 Tomic - seeded seventh - surged back to win three games on the bounce and take it 6-4, before easing through the second set 6-3.
Former champion Radek Stepanek is next up for Tomic after he cruised past Dusan Lajovic 6-0, 6-3, while sixth seed David Goffin is also safely through after dispatching Thomaz Bellucci in straight sets. Dominic Thiem, the eighth seed, beat home favourite James Duckworth 3-6 6-4 6-3, while Viktor Troicki overcame Steve Johnson.
Tuesday also saw victories for Ivan Dodig, Lucas Pouille and Mikhail Kukushkin. Kukushkin beat Denis Istomin 6-2, 7-5 to set up a clash with second seed Kei Nishikori.
