After losing the first game 9-21, Prannoy collected his game and unleashed his best to pocket the second and the third game. Chen fought till the last minute and it wasn’t an easy battle for the Indian shuttler.

In the third game, the scores kept changing from 17-14 (Prannoy on lead) to 16-17. Chen didn’t let Prannoy run away with the win.

Prannoy’s second game victory also saw a tight competition between the shuttlers with the Indian stealing the winner from an 18-18 situation.

Earlier in the day, Kidambi Srikanth cleared the first-round hurdle, by beating Brice Leverdez of France 7-21, 21-14, 22-20 in a thrilling match.

In another men's singles match, despite a strong start, India's Sai Praneeth crashed out after losing to Son Wan-Ho of Korea 21-13, 15-21, 11-21.

Saina Nehwal was knocked out by World No. 1 Tai Tzu-Ying in her first round match.
