Saina's victory, in comparison, was even more dominant. She defeated China's Gao Fangjie, the World No. 28, 21-18, 21-8. In a relatively close first game, Saina did not allow her opponent, close on her heels, to overtake her, barring a brief moment when she was 14-13 down. In the second, she won eight points in a row at 4-3 to establish a match-winning lead.

Srikanth, Prannoy progress

Among men, K. Srikanth profited out of a retirement by his opponent from Hong Kong — Wong Wing Ki Vincent. Srikanth led 7-2 in the first game when Wong pulled out.

H. S. Prannoy also moved into the third round; in a relatively lengthy contest, he defeated Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei 16-21, 21-14, 21-12.

Sai Praneeth bowed out of the tourney with a straightforward loss to the third seed Chen Long of China. He was defeated 21-12, 21-12.
