The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has decided to expel its Hon. General Secretary Vijay Sinha, a decision taken at the BAI Executive Committee meeting held here on Monday.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has decided to expel its Hon. General Secretary Vijay Sinha, a decision taken at the BAI Executive Committee meeting held here on Monday.

Anup Narang has been named as Sinha’s replacement. “Sinha is facing a judicial inquiry with regard to the charges of embezzlement, misappropriation, fraud, nepotism, favouritism, misconduct, harassment of players,” a press release from BAI stated.

In other developments, the BAI has decided to increase the prize money awarded to chief national coach P. Gopichand from Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh. The executive committee has approved the addition of two more teams for the next season of the Premier Badminton League. The launch of a “Domestic Badminton League”, only for Indian players, was also mooted.
