Hyderabad Open: Munawar, Vaishnavi register wins in day of upsets

Mohammed Munawar shocked teammate and third-seeded Ansal Yadav 8-21, 22-20, 22-20 in the men’s singles first round (qualifying) of the Hyderabad Open badminton championship at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Tuesday.

In another upset in women’s singles qualifying first round, K. Vaishnavi of India got the better of third-seeded Ka Yan Fan of Hong Kong 13-21, 21-14, 21-19.

Separate seedings are given for the qualifying rounds.
