Saina had a comfortable 10-6 lead in the third game but sixth seed Bingjiao found the lines at the right points and went on a five-point streak to claw her way back and clinch a 11-10 lead. Bingjiao continued to lead at 13-11 but that was all the room Saina offered her.

Both players claimed alternate points over the next eight rallies and the scoreline read 16-16 at one point. Saina upped the ante when it mattered the most to bag the next three points and held on to seal a remarkable win.

Eighth seed Saina will now face the winner of the second semifinal between Carolina Marin and Yufei Chen in Sunday's final.
