12:42 pm: It has been a dull day for the Indian contingent at the Japan Open. Prannoy crashes out too after losing 21-14, 21-17 against Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

12:28 pm: In the meantime, Prannoy trails Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the second set too. 14-13.

12:27 pm: 54 minutes! That is the time Gao took to subdue Sindhu's fighting spirit. She beats Sindhu 21-18, 21-19.

12:26 pm: Gao goes for a challenge. But she stays on 20. Meanwhile, Sindhu still trying to come back. She is two points away from a deuce.

12:23 pm: Gao is just two points away from the quarterfinals. Sindhu needs nothing short of something magical now. Sindhu has anxiety writ large on her face.

12:14 pm: Meanwhile in the men's singles match, Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting takes away the first game from HS Prannoy. Score reads 21-14.

12:10 pm: The frustrated look from the first game is back on Sindhu's face again. Sindhu appears fatigued and her movements restricted. Gao taking the game away from Sindhu. She leads 11-7.

12:09 pm: OUT again! Sindhu trailing 8-7.

12:06 pm: PV Sindhu's aggresiveness costing her points now. Two successive shots, OUT.

12:02 pm: PV Sindhu is visibly desperate for a comeback. She appears more aggressive now, gains a 5-0 lead, in the second game.

11: 59 am:Fangjie pockets the first set, quite easily at the end, makes it 21-18.

11:56 am: Fangjie is not letting things go that easy. What a fantastic point! As Fangjie lost her balance at the left, Sindhu directed the shuttle to the other side. But what a recovery by Fangjie to clinch a well deserved point.

11:54 am: Sindhu misreads Fangjie's move as the latter smashes the shuttle hard. Sindhu loses her balance and does not manage to reach it. It is 17-all now.

11:50 am: Sindhu tactfully directing the shuttlecock to make things difficult for Fangjie. She leads 17-15 now.

11:48 am: But Sindhu has gracefully swung back into the game, its 13-all now.

11:43 am: Meanwhile, Sindhu has started things off and she does not look completely at ease. Trails 6-1.

11: 35 am: Kidambi Srikanth beats Hong Kong's Vincent Wong 21-15, 21-14 to qualify to the Japan Open quarterfinals.

11:29 am:  Meanwhile, PV Sindhu is already out on to the court and can be seen warming up with opponent Fangjie Gao, who had defeated J. Vaishnavi Reddy 21-10, 21-8 in the first round.

11:25 am: Srikanth takes the first set against Hong Kong's Vincent Wong. The score reads 21-15.

11:15 am: Kidambi Srikanth leads in the first set against Vincent Wong, 14-11.

10:15 am: Momota clinches the match. Thumps Gemke 21-16, 21-18.

09:59 am: A fantastic rally ends in Momota's favour. 18-15 now.

09:56 am: But the explosive Kento Momota, who became the first Japanese man to win the Badminton World Championships in August this year, is back into the game. Notches up 10 points against Gemke's 2.

09:51 am: In what can be called another major upset, Asian Games gold medallist and World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying loses to China's Xiaoxin Chen 21-18, 21-14.

09:49 am: Gemke stages a wonderful comeback. Leads 12-10.

09:37 am: Meanwhile, fourth seed Kento Momota is clearly finding things easy in his singles match against Denmark's Rasmus Gemke. The Japanese won his first set 21-16.

08:15 am:The men's doubles pair of B. Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Attri lose against Qiang Tan and Jiting He 21-18, 16-21, 21-12.

07:50 am: Malaysia's Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh downs the mixed Indian pairing of N Sikki Reddy and Pranaav Jerry Chopra 21-16, 21-16.

Third seed P. V. Sindhu made it to the second round of the Japan Open after defeating unseeded Japanese Uber Cupper Sayaka Takahashi 21-17, 7-21, 21-1 on Tuesday. The second round would see Sindhu going up against the talented Fangjie Gao, who had defeated J. Vaishnavi Reddy 21-10, 21-8 in the first round.

HS Prannoy will also be in action on Thursday as he goes up against Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. Kidambi Srikanth, on the other hand, faces Hong Kong's Vincent Wong. Below is the list of all the Indians who take the court on Thursday.
