Following their maiden Grand Prix title win in the Mexico Open, the men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy have jumped three places to be 17th in the badminton world rankings. Manu and Sumeeth, who defeated Thailand’s Bodin Issara and Nipitphon Puangpuapech in Mexico last weekend, also matched their career-best rankings they held in August when the latest world rankings were announced on Thursday.
However, the women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa dropped a place to 14th. Japan’s Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito, who won the women’s doubles title in Mexico, moved up three places to be 13th, forcing Jwala and Ashwini to drop a place.
In the men’s singles, Ajay Jayaram gained a place to be 21st after his quarter-final appearance in Mexico, while Kidambi Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap remained at the ninth and 15th spots respectively. South Korean Lee Dong Keun was a big mover as he jumped six places to be 23rd after his title-winning show in Mexico.
There was no movement for Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu in women’s singles, who stayed at No.2 and 12 respectively. South Korea’s Bae Yeon Ju, who won in Mexico, attained a spot to be 13th, while runner-up Sayaka Sato of Japan made a jump of four places to be 14th. Due to improvements shown by these two players, Canada’s Michelle Li dropped down two places to be 15th.
