Sai Praneeth withdraws from National badminton c'ship

B. Sai Praneeth, who played in the mixed team event for Petroleum Sports Promotion Board on Wednesday, pulled out of the singles, citing a shoulder injury that he incurred while playing against Sameer Verma in the final of the Syed Modi International tournament in Lucknow recently.

All the top 16 seeded players have been given a bye in the first round of the men's and women's singles of the 81st Senior National badminton championship beginning here on Friday. One of the top players missing from the men's singles draw is B. Sai Praneeth, who is ranked 32nd in the world.

The 24-year-old, who played in the mixed team event for Petroleum Sports Promotion Board on Wednesday, pulled out of the singles, citing a shoulder injury that he incurred while playing against Sameer Verma in the final of the Syed Modi International tournament in Lucknow recently. He has been advised a minimum of two weeks rest.
