Sindhu in quarters, Praneeth bows out of Swiss Open

Sindhu, seeded sixth, claimed a 21-16, 21-16 triumph over Yu Po in a contest that lasted for 36 minutes.

Indian ace shuttler P.V. Sindhu booked her place in the quarterfinals of the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament after brushing aside Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei in the women’s singles event here on Thursday.

The sixth-seed claimed a 21-16, 21-16 triumph over Yu Po in a contest that lasted for 36 minutes.

In the men’s singles event, B. Sai Praneeth tasted defeat at the hands of second-seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. The second seed won 21-19, 21-6.

Meanwhile, Sameer Verma also crashed out of the tournament after suffering a 15-21, 19-21 defeat against Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk.
