Prannoy bows out of Swiss Open

Loses 21-19 21-11 in the quarterfinals to Shi Yuqi; Pranaav and Sikki also lose their respective doubles match.

India's H.S. Prannoy exited Swiss Open in the quarterfinals with a 21-19 21-11 loss to second seed Shi Yuqi of China.

The first game, a neck-and-neck battle was 18-13 in favour of Prannoy at one stage, but then he lost six points in a row. The second was an altogether one-sided scenario as Shi Yuqi led most of the way through. At 15-11, he won six points in a row again to clinch the match.

Earlier, fourth seeds Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy lost their quarterfinal match to exit the Swiss Open in Basel.

Pranaav and Sikki lost 21-19, 21-17 to the Chinese duo -- Nan Zhang and Yinhui Li. Nan and Yinhui won eight consecutive points from 3-3 for a formidable 11-3 lead in the first game. Even though the Indian duo fought well, it conceded the game.

In the second game, both pairs alternated points till 7-7 until Nan and Yinhui won three straight points to go up to 10-7. The Indians levelled the game at 14-14 but lost five straight points to let the Chinese have the advantage before losing the game.
