24 players selected for NBA Academy

The national wide basketball talent hunt culminated in the selection of 21 players for the NBA Academy India. Three more players will be selected in due course of time for the academy.

The national wide basketball talent hunt culminated in the selection of 21 players for the NBA Academy India. The players ranged from the 14-year-old Amaan Sandhu of Punjab with a height of 6 feet and 9 inches, to Rishabh Jaiswal of Chhattisgarh at 5’8’’.

Three more players will be selected in due course of time for the academy, for which the earlier try-outs were held in Mumbai, Delhi Ludhiana, Kochi, Chennai and Kolkata.

The top 45 players went through a final selection for three days at the Jaypee Greens in Greater Noida. "For the youth, it is a pathway to make a career out of the sport. We are committed to growing the program in the years to come", said the NBA India Managing Director Yannick Colaco.

The Academy, fully funded by NBA, is scheduled to open in April this year. It will have a holistic approach to player development that would include their education.

The list of selected players: Manoj Sisodiya, Md. Ali, Riyanshu Negi, Amaan Sandhu, Sejin Mathew, Virat Dhakad, Achintya Krishna, Rajveer Bhati, M. Shanmugam, Shaurya Kohli, Prashant Rawat, Vivek Chauhan, Jagshanbir Singh, Brijesh Tiwari, Arvind Kumar, Robin Banerjee,Digvijay Shekhawat, Preshit Pawar, Suraj Phathak, Parth Sharma and Rishabh Jaiswal.
