India thrashes Bangladesh in SABA championship

Amritpal Singh, with 22 points, and Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, with 14, starred for India.

Defending champion India routed Bangladesh 142-71 for its third straight win at the fifth South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Championship, here on Monday.

India dominated the contest from the beginning, outscoring Bangladesh 36-9 in the very first quarter.

Amritpal Singh scored 22 points — the third straight game, where he has scored 20-plus points. Veteran shooting guard Vishesh Bhriguvanshi chipped in with 14 points while controlling the flow of the game.

For Bangladesh, captain Kumar Biswas Mithun led the charge with 25 points and was ably supported by Khan Mohammad with 22 points but the duo lacked support from the rest of the team.

Bhriguvanshi was declared player of the match.

India will take on Nepal on the final day of the championship on Tuesday.
