Pau Gasol hopes to help the Milwaukee Bucks win a championship after signing a contract with the team.

Six-time All-Star Gasol was bought out by the San Antonio Spurs last week and completed his expected move to the Bucks on Sunday.

Milwaukee sits top of the Eastern Conference at 48-15 and the two-time NBA champion hopes he can help the franchise claim just its second title.

"Thrilled to begin this new chapter in my NBA journey with the great Bucks," Gasol posted on Twitter.

"I look forward to the challenge. My goal, as always, will be to add value to the team and help deliver a championship to Milwaukee."

Gasol received a warm welcome from new team-mate Nikola Mirotic, who he played alongside at the Chicago Bulls between 2014 and 2016.

"Life smiles on me again," Mirotic tweeted. Alongside a photo of him and Gasol, he added: "Fate brings you back alongside the ideal people when you least expect it."

The Bucks won its only championship in 1971 and has not gone beyond the first round of the playoffs since 2001.

Gasol is averaging 4.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.5 blocks per game this season, well below his career averages of 17.1, 9.2 and 1.6 respectively.
