India’s Satnam Singh scored four points and one assist even as Dallas Mavericks lost to Orlando Blue in the Orlando Summer League on Thursday at Amway Center. The 7ft 2in center played for 9:37 minutes in the close contest which went in the favour of Orlando Blue 96-94.
Nick Johnson scored five points in the final minute to help the Orlando Blue hold off the hot-shooting Dallas Mavericks.
Johnson's 3-pointer with 45.3 seconds remaining gave Orlando a 94-89 lead in what was a nip-and-tuck battle that featured 13 lead changes and nine ties. Marquis Teague answered with a trey with 32.6 seconds left, but two huge offensive rebounds by Okaro White on Orlando's ensuing possession reduced the Mavericks to fouling. That's when Johnson, who totaled 19 points and nine assists, went to the line and drained two free throws with 3.9 seconds left to ice it.
The Mavericks dominated from beyond the arc, shooting 50 percent (9 of 18) while holding Orlando to 5-of-18 shooting from 3-point range. They also capitalized on 19 Orlando turnovers. The Blue, though, countered by making 60.4 percent of their 2-pointers, 51.5 percent overall from the field.
Third-year guard Devyn Marble paced the Blue’s attack with a superb all-around effort that featured 21 points, six assists and a game-high five steals. Stephen Zimmerman added 12 points and Mickey McConnell had 10. White finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Vander Blue was just 4 of 12 from the field, but he drained 3 of 5 from long distance for 17 points to lead Orlando. Teague totaled 14 points and five assists, while Casey Prather had 11. Tyler Honeycutt was a defensive force in his 33 minutes, grabbing 10 of his 13 rebounds on the defensive end and adding three steals and three blocks with nine points.
