Two-time Olympian and 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manoj Kumar was on Tuesday elected the athletes' representative for men in the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) Executive Committee.

In a first of its kind move, the BFI made provisions for athletes' representative in its all-important EC. In the poll held on the sidelines of the National Boxing Championship here, Manoj garnered 16 of 27 votes to be elected for the post.

"The BFI had decided that there will be player representation in BFI Executive Committee. The elections were held today and 27 votes were cast by all the 27 participating teams in the championships. The first players' representative for male boxers was elected today and his name is Manoj Kumar," BFI President Ajay Singh announced at the end of the day's proceedings.

"He got 16 votes out of 27 votes and has been elected by overwhelming majority. We are hopeful that he will show us the right way," he added.
