Jamuna Boro will be the first Indian in action at the Women's World Boxing Championships in Russia's Ulan-Ude city, on Friday.

Competing in the 54kg bantam category, Jamuna will face Erdenedalai Michidmaa of Mongolia. The bout is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM IST, in Ring A.

54kg is a non-Olympic weight category.

Jamuna bagged the gold in India Open boxing tournament in the 54kg category, in May this year, beating Sandhyarani Devi 5-0 in the final bout.

In July, the Assam-based boxer added another gold to her collection, defeating Italy’s veteran boxer Giulia Lamagna 5-0 at the 23rd President’s Cup in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.

Jamuna booked her ticket to the World Championships after fighting out stiff resistance from Shiksha, who had earlier stunned the Cologne Boxing World Cup gold medallist Meena Kumari in a gruelling encounter to reach the final.
