FIDE Grand Prix: Humpy, Harika disappoint

Koneru Humpy could score only six points, 1.5 behind the champion, Ju Wenjun of China, who was the second seed.

Top seed Koneru Humpy of India finished a disappointing sixth in the second leg of the FIDE Grand Prix women’s chess, held in Tehran. She could score only six points, 1.5 behind the champion, Ju Wenjun of China, who was the second seed.

There was more disappointment for India, as Dronavalli Harika, seeded fifth, ended in the ninth place.

The standings:

1. Ju Wenjun (Chn) 7.5; 2-3. Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (Ira) and Zhao Xue (Chn) 7; 4-5. Natalija Pogonina (Rus) and Nana Dzagnidze (Geo) 6.5; 6. Koneru Humpy (Ind) 6; 7. Natalia Zhukova (Ukr) 5.5; 8-9. Valentina Gunina (Rus) and Dronavalli Harika (Ind) 4.5; 10. Pia Cramling (Swe) 4; 11-12. Antoaneta Stefanova (Bul) and Nina Batsiashvili (Geo) 3.5.
