Fourth seed Viswanathan Anand continued to gain ground with a second straight win and shared the 10th spot with compatriot B. Adhiban after six rounds of FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss here on Tuesday.
Facing 15-year-old Kazakh Nodirbek Abdussattorov — once the second youngest Grandmaster — Anand won from the white side in 47 moves.
Anand now has four points. Adhiban drew with Boris Gelfand, a former challenger to the World crown.
Fabiano Caruana and Wang Hao emerged victorious to maintain their half-point lead at five points. Seven players including Magnus Carlsen are on 4.5 points. The action will resume after a day’s rest.
Surya Shekhar Ganguly won and matched Vidit Gujrathi’s tally of four points. However, P. Hari Krishna (3) suffered his first loss.
Continuing his splendid comeback, S. P. Sethuraman (3.5) made amends for defeats in the first two rounds by winning for the third time in four games.
Youngsters continued to impress as Raunak Sadhwani (3.5) held well-known Hungarian Peter Leko, Abhimanyu Puranik (3.5) drew with Ray Robson and S. L. Narayanan (3) stayed unbeaten following a sixth successive draw.
