India’s Dronavalli Harika shared the third spot with Russia's Kateryna Lagno and Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine after the ninth round of the World women’s blitz chess championship in Doha on Thursday. She had 6.5 points, one behind leader Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia.
Koneru Humpy was in the joint-sixth position with six points. Eight rounds remain.
In the men’s event, top seed Magnus Carlsen of Norway and Sergey Karjakin of Russia, who had played each other at the World championship in the classical time control recently in New York, were in the lead, with 10 points after 12 rounds.
Former champion Viswanathan Anand was in the 14th position with 7.5 points. Nine rounds remain.
