Commonwealth Games, Day 9: As it happened

At the end of day nine, India stays at third spot with 17 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals.

6:01pm: Another superb day comes to an end, with India's tally adding up to 42 and 17 gold medals. Today, the day nine action started for India with Tejaswini Sawant bagging gold in 50m rifle 3 positions and then Anish Bhanwala following up with another yellow metal in 25m rapid pistol. Later in the day, it was Bajrang Punia improving on his Glasgow show by clinching a gold medal.

5:37pm: Sathish Kumar beats Keddy Agnes of Seychelles in 91kg boxing to enter final. Another Indian boxer to have a shot at gold.

5:00pm: H.S. Prannoy beats Sri Lanka's Dinuka Karunaratna 21-13, 21-6 to enter men's singles semifinal. Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj/Ashwini Ponappa storm into mixed doubles semifinals, beat world No. 7 Malaysian duo of Goh/Lai 21-19, 21-19.

 

4:38pm: India go down to New Zealand 2-3 in the semifinal and will now play England or Australia in bronze play-off.

 

4:35pm: In boxing, Vikas Krishan will now have a shot at gold, as he enters the 75kg final after beating Steven Donnelly (NIR) by unanimous decision.

4:18pm: Manoj Kumar loses to Pat McCormack of England in semis of men’s 69kg boxing; wins bronze. It's medal No. 42 for India.

4:07pm:Manika Batra/Mouma Das win women's doubles silver after going down to Mengyu Yu/Tianwei Feng of Singapore 5-11, 4-11, 5-11.

3:54pm: In Table Tennis women's doubles gold medal match, Manika Batra/Mouma Das have conceded the first game 5-11 against Tianwei Feng/Mengyu Yu of Singapore.

3:47pm: Hussam Uddin Mohammed loses in semis, gets bronze in Men’s 56 kg category boxing. He lost to Peter McGrail of England 0-5. Medal number 40 for India.

3:26pm: P.V. Sindhu beats Brittney Tam of Canada 21-14, 21-17 to enter women's singles semifinal.

2:59 pm: P. V. Sindhu's quarterfinal match against Canada's Brittney Tam has begun.  Sindhu is ahead early, leading 4-2.

2:33pm: Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal have assured India a medal in squash after reaching the final of mixed doubles.

 

2:29pm:Mausam Khatri settles for freestyle 97kg men's silver after losing the final bout 2-12 to Martin Erasmus of South Africa.

 

2:02pm: Meanwhile, Pranaav Chopra and Sikki Reddy have lost their mixed doubles badminton quarterfinals.

1:55pm: Divya Kakran wins Women's 68kg bronze in wrestling after defeating Bangadesh's Sherin Sultana.

 

1:36pm: Pooja Dhanda trailing 1-6 in the gold medal match against Nigeria's Odunayo. The Indian wrestler does well to claw back but not enough to clinch the gold. Dhanda settles for a silver.

1:22pm:Bajrang Punia gives India another wrestling gold in men's freestyle (65kg). He wins it without dropping a point against Kane Charig of Wales. The win gives India its 17th gold medal.

 

12:58pm: Pooja Dhanda has assured another wrestling medal by entering the final in 56kg freestyle category. While another wrestler Divya Kakran loses to Nigeria's Blessing Oborodudu on technical superiority. She still could win a medal in the bronze play-off.

12:56pm: Sathiyan Gnanasekaran loses to Samuel Walker of England 8-11, 8-11, 11-13, 15-17 in men's singles table tennis quarterfinal.

12:43pm: Meanwhile, Indian quartet of Jeevan Suresh, Jacob Amoj, Muhammed Anas and Rajiv Arokia entered the final of the men’s 4x400 metre relay.

Earlier in the day, boxer Amit Panghal stormed into the final of 46-49kg category with 5-0 win. The final bout for GOLD is tomorrow.

 

11:59am: Shreyasi Singh failed to replicate his double trap performance and was eliminated after finishing fifth in trap finals.

11:39am: Table Tennis: Mouma Das and Manika Batra are through to the final with 3-0 win in semis.

Badminton: Ashwini Ponappa/Sikki Reddy are through to semis with 21-11, 21-13 win in quarterfinal.

11:18am: Naman Tanwar settles for bronze after losing in semifinal to Australian boxer in 91kg category.

 

10:50am: After becoming world No. 1 yesterday, Kidambi Srikanth is now in men's singles semifinal after beating Zin Rei Ryan of Singapore 21-15, 21-12 in quarters. Moreover, Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the badminton men’s doubles semifinals with a 21-14, 15-21, 21-9 win over Malaysia's Peng Soon Chan and Soon Huat Goh.

10:47am: Shreyasi Singh after winning gold in double trap few days ago has now moved into the trap finals.

10:45am: In Table Tennis, Sharath Kamal beats England's Liam Pitchford to enter men's singles semifinal.

10:43am: Indian boxers Amit Panghal, Gaurav Solanki and Manish Kaushik entered the finals of their respective categories.

10:42am: Saina Nehwal has moved into the semifinals of women's singles and will meet Kristi Gilmour of Scotland.

The day has started on a good note for India, with Tejaswini Sawant winning gold and bronze going to Anjum Moudgil in women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event.

Then it was 15-year-old Anish Bhanwala who added another gold to India's tally by finishing top on the podium in men’s 25m rapid fire finals.
