Sydney Olympics bronze medallist Karnam Malleswari and the Asian Games silver medallist J. Vishnu Vardhan formally launched the ‘Range De Thiranga’ initiative of the Sony Pictures Networks in association with the Telangana Sports Journalists Association here on Wednesday to garner support and cheer up the Indian contingent taking part in the next month’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast (Australia).

Speaking on the occasion, renowned weightlifter Malleswari says that for any athlete there cannot be a more inspirational sight than the National tricolour and no better sense of pride than seeing it being unfurled on the victory podium in any international competition.

“I appreciate the Sony Pictures for this wonderful initiative and hope the contingent will return with the biggest-ever medal haul from Gold Coast as there has been lot of planning into the preparations,” she said.

“Given the haul of 215 medals including 75 gold in the last three editions, I am sure Indians will come back home with improved performances. I urge them to Go for the Gold and I am sure the blessings, wishes and aspirations of the millions of Indians will inspire the athletes to raise the bar,” Malleswari said.

For his part, Vishnuvardhan said he was honoured to share the platform with Malleswari reminding that he won his junior national title the same year when the weightlifter clinched the bronze in Sydney Games.

“Yes, these are the kind of campaigns which help a long way in athletes stepping into a different zone as they will be aware of the kind of support back home for them,” he said.

Mr. V. Ramesh, Secretary of TSJA, also appreciated the Sony Pictures initiative and wished the Indian contingent will return with the best-ever medal haul.

“The Rang de Thiranga campaign is SPN’s rallying cry that taps the emotions of the Indian fans and asks them to show their support for the tri-colour,” said Kedar Teny, Senior Vice-president, Marketing & OAP, Sony Pictures Networks.
