CWG: Srikanth leads India to badminton team event semifinals

India thrashed Mauritius 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of badminton mixed team event at Gold Coast.

It was another smooth cruise for India in the mixed team badminton event in the XXI Commonwealth Games at the Carrrara sports arena 2 here on Saturday. The top-ranked team took Mauritius on its stride with an easy 3-0 win and raced into the semifinals.

The top-ranked side was given a brilliant start by the pair of Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Chandrasekhar Shetty blowing up their rivals, Aatish Lubah and Chrsitopher Jean Paul 21-12, 21-3 in just 26 hours before the women duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki N. Reddy made it 2-0. The Indians required fewer minutes than their men team-mates as they blitzed past Aurelie Marie Elea Allet and Nick Chan-Lam 2-18, 21-7.

Kidambi Srikanth showed how good form he is in, defeating Georges Julien Paul, 21-12, 21-4 in just about 29 minutes.

In the semifinals to be held on Sunday, India will take on Singapore, which came past Australia 3-0.
