It is official now. Legendary Jamaican sprint king, Usain Bolt, who ignited the track at the penultimate night of the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow four years back as much as he did elsewhere through a glittering career, will be here during the current Games starting on Wednesday.
The lanky Jamaican, who hung his spikes at the conclusion of the last year’s World championships in London, had missed out the 2010 Games in New Delhi and took part only in the 4 x 100m relay in 2014, blitzing down the straight in his own inimitable style while leading his home country to an easy gold medal in the event.
Since then appointed as one of the Games’ Ambassadors, Bolt will be in the Gold Coast either during the coming weekend or next week. “His presence is going to be highly motivational for all the athletes attending these Games and electrifying to the sports fans across the Gold Coast and elsewhere, the Commonwealth Games Federation, CEO, David Grevemberg told Sportstar here on Tuesday morning, confirming Bolt’s participation in the Games.
