Indian women’s cricket captain, Mithali Raj, will be presented with a BMW car by V. Chamundeswaranath, former junior national selection committee chairman and now vice-president of Telangana Badminton Association.

It may be recalled here that he was also instrumental in a similar gesture when cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar presented the first-ever car to Mithali in 2007.

Chamundi, as he is more familiar in sporting circles, will organise a felicitation function irrespective of the result in the World Cup final on Sunday. The exact details include date and venue would be announced soon.

He informed Sportstar that the car will be presented irrespective whether India wins or not as it is in recognition of her outstanding performances over the last 17 years at the highest level.

Meanwhile, R.S.R. Murthy, Mithali’s mentor-cum-coach from South Central Railway, informed that the Indian Railways have decided in principle to give out of turn promotion to all the 10 members of the current Indian team who are on their rolls on reaching the World Cup final.

Interestingly, Mithali who has been in constant touch with Murthy also spoke to him this morning and exuded confidence about winning the Cup.

“The mood is upbeat and all we have to do is just go out enjoy and give off our best shot for one last time in this World Cup,” she told her coach.
