The Arunachal Cricket Association (ACA) has roped in former India fast bowler Sanjeev Sharma as its coach for the forthcoming domestic season.

The association had earlier decided to retain Gursharan Singh, its coach last season, for another year. But with the former India batsman taking up coaching assignment with Uttarakhand earlier this week, the ACA found itself in a spot.

“We apprised the BCCI about the issue and sought its help in getting a replacement. There is not much time in hand and we are glad to welcome Sharma on board,” ACA secretary, Kabak Geda, told  Sportstar .

When contacted by this publication, even Sharma confirmed the development. The 54-year-old — who played a couple of Tests and 23 ODIs for India — was the head coach of Sikkim last season. Even though the team had a dismal outing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, it eventually improved in the Ranji Trophy.

“He (Sharma) comes with a great experience and our cricketers will benefit from his presence,” Geda said.

With the Vijay Hazare Trophy set to begin on September 24, Arunachal will host a camp from next week under the watchful eyes of Sharma.

This season, Arunachal has roped in Samarth Seth, Rahul Dalal and Shashwat Kohli as its three outstation players.
