England has added seamer Craig Overton to its squad for the second Test of the Ashes against Australia at Adelaide Oval.

The tourist lost the series opener by 10 wickets in Brisbane and had concerns over the fitness of spinning all-rounder Moeen Ali, who suffered a cut finger at the Gabba.

It was feared he may not be able to bowl in South Australia, but leg spinner Mason Crane, uncapped at Test level, has not been selected, suggesting Moeen came through a nets session on Friday unscathed.

Jake Ball's place, though, may be at risk after he returned underwhelming figures of 1-115 in Queensland.

And 23-year-old Overton, having been added the squad, is now vying to make his international debut on what would be the biggest stage of all.

England squad: Joe Root (c), Alastair Cook, Mark Stoneman, James Vince, Dawid Malan, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Jake Ball, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Craig Overton.
