Mohammad Ashraful has targeted a long stint in the Bangladesh side after returning from three years out of the game due to a match-fixing ban.
Former Bangladesh captain Ashraful admitted to spot-fixing in the country's national Twenty20 competition in June 2013 and was given an eight-year suspension — shortened to five years with two suspended on appeal.
That sanction expired on Saturday, freeing Ashraful to return to domestic action, however he remains banned from internationals according to his lawyer.
"Mr Ashraful is eligible to play domestic cricket from the 13th August 2016. However, he will be ineligible to play international cricket or the BPL [until 2018]," Yasin Patel is quoted by Cricket World.
Ashraful added: “I got a new opportunity to revive my career. Now my first priority is to perform well in domestic cricket.
"If I can do that I hope the BCB will take initiative to lift my ban from international cricket too.
"I think I’ve yet to give my best to cricket."
The 32-year-old also believes that the performances of Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, leading his side against England currently at the age of 42, shows he can contribute to the national team for years to come.
"In Bangladesh, cricketers have a hard time after they cross 30, so it will be a challenge," he told ESPN Cricinfo.
"And I will be back after a long gap, which has never happened before for a cricketer here. But I am taking up both challenges. I want to play for 10 more years, just like Misbah is doing at the age of 42."
